FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions about the Hamburg City Pass

What is included in the Hamburg City Pass?+

The Hamburg City Pass gives you free entry to over 20 attractions and activities in Hamburg. These include well-known sights such as the Michel (St. Michaelis Church), numerous museums (e.g. the International Maritime Museum or the museum ship Rickmer Rickmers) as well as leisure attractions like the Panoptikum wax museum or black-light minigolf.

Also included at no extra cost are a hop-on hop-off city tour, a harbour cruise on the Elbe, an Alster cruise and exciting guided city tours. Optionally, you can book the pass with a public transport ticket - in that case, all public transport (HVV) within the city area is free to use for the duration of the pass.

How do I activate the pass and how long is it valid?+

The Hamburg City Pass activates automatically on the first day you selected as the start date when booking. From that point, the pass is valid for the number of consecutive days you booked (1 to 7 days available).

Important: The validity days must run consecutively and cannot be interrupted. You should use your pass for the first time within 12 months of the purchase date - the first visit to an attraction activates the pass permanently.

Can I visit attractions more than once?+

Each attraction included in the City Pass can only be visited once free of charge per pass. A second visit to the same attraction is not covered by the same pass during the validity period.

Which public transport services can I use?+

If you book the Hamburg City Pass including public transport, you receive an HVV ticket for fare zone AB for the duration booked. This lets you use all services of Hamburg's public transport network (HVV):

  • S-Bahn (suburban trains)
  • U-Bahn (underground trains)
  • Buses (including express buses)
  • Harbour ferries

Note: Public transport use is optional and only included if you selected the "With Public Transport Ticket" option.

Is the pass valid for journeys to the airport?+

Yes! The Hamburg City Pass with public transport also entitles you to travel to/from Hamburg Airport. The airport lies in HVV zone AB, so the journey by S-Bahn line S1 from the airport to the city centre is fully included in the pass.

So if you have booked the public transport option, you can board the S-Bahn directly at the airport on arrival and travel to the city centre without an additional ticket.

Do I get priority entry at the attractions?+

With the Hamburg City Pass, you receive free and often priority entry to many of the city's top attractions. In practice, you can usually go directly to the attraction without needing to purchase a separate ticket on-site.

Important note: However, the pass does not automatically provide general fast-track access (guaranteed priority without queuing) at every attraction. Whether priority entry is available depends on the individual attraction.

Are there discounts for children and youths?+

Yes, there are three age categories with tiered pricing:

  • Adults (18 years and over)
  • Youths (15-17 years) - discounted price
  • Children (3-14 years) - discounted price

Children under 3 years generally do not need their own pass, as they typically receive free entry at most attractions anyway.

How do I receive the pass after purchase?+

You will receive the Hamburg City Pass directly after purchase by email. The pass is sent as a digital ticket (PDF), which you can print out yourself or show on your smartphone.

No physical delivery is necessary - you can start using the ticket delivered by email at the attractions straight away.

Can I cancel or return the pass?+

Yes! Special cancellation conditions apply to the Hamburg City Pass: if you cancel up to 24 hours before the planned date of use, no cancellation fees apply.

Important: If you cancel less than 24 hours before the start date, no refund is possible. The pass must not have been used yet.

What happens if I lose the pass?+

Since the Hamburg City Pass is provided digitally by email, you don't need to worry about losing it. If you have misplaced the printout or the PDF file, you can download or print the pass again at any time from the original email.

If you cannot find the email with the ticket (also check your spam folder), you can contact the Turbopass customer service - they will help you retrieve your pass.

Is the pass transferable to other people?+

No, the Hamburg City Pass is personal and non-transferable. Each pass is issued in one name and is only valid for that person.

However, you can of course purchase City Passes for friends or family members and have them booked in their names.

Book the Right Pass

Both are digital and delivered instantly by email: book the Hamburg City Pass here or switch to the Hamburg Card with HVV public transport.
